Annual Riverfire lights up Brisbane skyline

Half a million people have taken to the streets in the Queensland capital to celebrate Brisbane's annual Riverfire.

A fifth of Brisbane's population lined the banks of the city's river with some people staking their claim on a prime position since 6am.

More than 100 chartered boats were on the water to take in the action, and thankfully some rain threatening to dampen the event held off.

A spectacular fireworks display lit up the night sky as the Story Bridge was illuminated with lights and colour.
