Ringwood murder: Car, backpack seized as police probe fatal driveway shooting

Police are ramping up their probe into the fatal shooting of a young man in Melbourne overnight.

CCTV shows an unknown man in a hooded jacket running towards Barkly Street, Ringwood, about 12.50am.

One minute later, the same security camera shows a black station wagon doing a U-turn in the direction of the running man.

At 1.05am, police were called to the street after reports a 28-year-old man had been shot in a couple’s driveway.

9NEWS understands an unidentified man came running to the couple’s door and screamed for help, yelling the name "Andrew".

Police found the victim, from Essendon, dead at the scene from gunshot wounds.

No arrests have been made.

After scouring the location of the murder this afternoon, police located a backpack and also seized what appeared to be metal pole and hedge trimmers.

A secondary crime scene was set up in Ellison Street, where the car shown in the CCTV was searched; officers seized keys and a wallet.

Investigations are ongoing.
