Movie review: Richard Wilkins on 'The Star' and 'Wonder'

Hollywood's latest releases including The Star and Wonder are set to hit the big screens this week and at least one will pull on your heart strings, according to Channel Nine entertainment editor Richard Wilkins.

The Star

It’s a computer-animated adventure comedy based around the nativity of Jesus. I never thought I’d use that sentence.

There is, however, a stellar voice cast with plenty of big names attached.

Kelly Clarkson plays ‘Leah the Horse’, while Oprah voices ‘Deborah the Camel’ and Mariah Carey voices ‘Rebecca the Hen’.

Carey also contributes a song to the sound track called The Star, and it’s shining in cinema’s today.

Wonder

The heart-string yarn is based on the best-selling novel about a young man with a serious facial deformity.

Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson play the parents of Auggie – a young boy with a rare medical issue.

Canadian child actor, Jake Tremlay, plays Auggie and is just fantastic,.

You’ll remember him from his award-winning role in Room, although you may not recognise him in this film.

It has a first-class supporting cast on board on a relativity low-budget film.

It's a serious-inspiring, if a little manipulative story line but it's worth seeing.
