Residents hear explosion as Sydney home gutted by suspicious fire

An unoccupied house in Sydney’s west has been destroyed in a massive blaze that authorities are treating as suspicious.

Emergency crews were called around 2am to the Oakhurst home after residents reported hearing an explosion.

No one was injured in the fire, but neighbouring homes suffered minor damage.

“I woke up as it was just happening, I heard my parents yelling,” neighbour Renmark Samson said.

“I didn’t know what to think, I was thinking more about my family,” he said.

Authorities are combing through the debris as they investigate what caused the suspicious blaze.
