Fire destroys home and threatens nearby property in Mudgeeraba
A house fire triggered an emergency situation on the Gold Coast this afternoon, after it became “engulfed” in flames and sparked a grass fire.
The fire broke out at a vacant Rising Fast Road property in Mudgeeraba about 12.10pm.
“It only seemed to take ten minutes for the whole house to be engulfed,” neighbour Zorinah Burrell told 9NEWS.
Black smoke billowing from the home was visible from the street and as far as Surfer’s Paradise.
A dozen firefighting crews worked to extinguish the blaze, as police and other emergency services assisted with evacuations of nearby homes.
One man in his 40s was treated for heat exhaustion, paramedics said.
No-one else was injured.
The blaze was deemed under control about 3pm, with residents allowed to return to properties on Hardys Road, Wallaby Road and Strawberry Road.
Strawberry Road has also been re-opened to all traffic.
