A teenager has been rescued on North Stradbroke Island after she became stuck on a cliff face this afternoon.

She is believed to have got stuck eight metres up after becoming fatigued while climbing the Point Lookout cliff, shortly after 1pm.

Her mother called emergency services who used ropes to climb down the cliff and lower the teenager to safety.

"She climbed from the beach up, she had apparently seen some other kids climbing the rock wall and decided to have a go herself" Queensland Police's Ivan Parsons told 9NEWS.

The rescue operation lasted almost two hours.

The teenager did not suffer any physical injuries but was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
