Reporter pushes luck too far and ends up in river

A Canadian news reporter has pushed his luck too far, with his final take from a fast flowing river seeing him end up in the drink.

CBC New Brunswick journalist Shane Fowler was standing in water up to his ankles talking about the falling fish population in the Oromocto River on Thursday when the current swept him off his feet, CBC reports.

The reporter had already narrowly avoided falling as he scooped a fish out of the water in a net when he said he would do "one more" take.

As the camera zoomed in on Fowler a powerful surge of water knocked him off his feet and caused him to fall into the water backside first.

He was almost swept downstream as he struggled against the current but managed to get up and laugh off the tumble.

Three onlookers laughed and cheered as the camera turned to capture their reaction.

Fowler posted footage of the incident online and commented "I ate it pretty good there" on Twitter.
