Relief teams return from cyclone zone

Australian medical and search teams have returned to Australia after lending a hand in Vanuatu after the devastation of Cyclone Pam.

Twenty seven doctors, nurses, paramedics and pharmacists have treated 1341 patients at Port Vila hospital in the past fortnight.

They also helped deliver several babies.

Demand for health care has now stabilised and local health authorities are able to manage.

An urban search and rescue team helped repair the hospital, health clinics and 27 schools.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop praised both teams for their efforts.

The Australian Defence Force continues to distribute supplies to people in need on Tanna, Erromango, Aneityrum and Efate islands.

Ms Bishop said Australia was working with the Vanuatu government as operations transition from relief to recovery.
