Rare scorching weather event to strike four Australian capital cities on Tuesday

The east coast of Australia is about to suffer from its hottest spell of pre-Christmas weather in a decade, according to weatherzone.

The scorching heat will kick temperatures into the mid to high 30s on Tuesday and Wednesday and the night’s will offer no relief.

Plan for a restless night's sleep on Tuesday, with night-time temperatures not expected to fall below the mid 20s in Sydney, Craig McIntosh, a meteorologist at weatherzone, has forecast.

If McIntosh and the weather experts are correct, apply deodorant liberally on Wednesday with highs of 37 expected in Sydney's CBD.

Victoria's December has been chilly so far but that is about to change thanks to the passing high that is going to affect most of the country's south east.

Adelaide and Melbourne are likely to be in the thirties on Monday and Tuesday and could remain above 20 degrees for at least one night.

Weatherzone are predicting Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney to all experience highs between 33 and 37 degrees on Tuesday.

Weather records show the last time these four capital cities had maximum temperature above 33 degrees on the same day was February 2011.

But for this to occur in the month of December is even more remarkable.
