Random government employee 'was going to be beheaded' in foiled terror plot

A random government employee was to be beheaded in an alleged terror plot planned in the Sunshine State.

Queensland Police will allege the foiled plan involved an attack on a "government official" selected entirely at random, the Courier Mail reports.

The alleged plot is linked to Agim Kruezi, a 21-year-old man from Logan who was arrested two weeks ago and only days before he planned to carry out the attack, the newspaper reports.

It is also believed federal police have found a link between Mr Kruezi to 22-year-old Sydney man Omarjan Azari who is accused of planning to behead a random non-believer on a Sydney street.

A source told the newspaper that Mr Kruezi was days away from carrying out the attack before he was arrested south of Brisbane two weeks ago.

Police will allege the details of the plot were gathered through bugged phone conversations between the Logan man's associates — but not by him specifically.

"No particular group, or name was specifically mentioned," the unnamed counter-terrorism source told the Courier-Mail.

"By a Government official, it could have been anyone — which should strike fear into every employee, and their families."

The official also said that random attacks on the street were "most concerning" because they hardest to stop.

"Random attacks in the streets, like what was allegedly proposed in Sydney, are probably the most shocking of all crimes because it affects every mum and dad out there," the source said.
