QUESTION TIME IN FEDERAL PARLIAMENT
WHAT WE LEARNED * The gross debt position of the government in 2021 would be $606 billion while it peaked at 30.7 per cent of national income in 2018/19, Treasurer Scott Morrison said.
* When Labor was in government, debt grew at an annual rate of 34 per cent. Under the coalition, that rate had been reduced by two-thirds, the treasurer told MPs.
* Negative gearing had enabled one-quarter of the country to put a roof over their heads, Morrison said in response to a Labor question about investors getting more government support than a young couple trying to buy their first home.
* The banks were not scared of a royal commission because they had plenty of lawyers to defend them, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull told MPs.
WHAT THE GOVERNMENT WANTED TO SPIN
The world economy is growing and we will grow into that growth because we're positioning Australia well for that growth.
WHAT LABOR WANTED TO TALK ABOUT How is it fair that a millionaire will receive a $16,400 tax cut while every other Australian has to pay more tax?
THEY SAID WHAT "At the end of the day, the Medi-friends are on this side and the Medi-frauds are on that side." - Health Minister Greg Hunt chides Labor MPs.
TWEETED @TimWattsMP: Scott Morrison claims that rental properties would not exist without negative gearing. Seriously.
