WHAT WE LEARNED

* Senior government figure Christopher Pyne was reluctant to repeat out loud a "disgraceful" swear word, allegedly uttered by Labor's Wayne Swan. But he was "happy to write it down for you", he told the Speaker. Apparently it was "crap", the word that is.

* Former deputy prime minister Warren Truss, on his last day in parliament, recalled that during the 26 years he's been there he had attended 2000 question times, heard 30,000 questions and "at least some answers".

* Labor frontbencher Joel Fitzgibbon reminded Barnaby Joyce to mention the backpacker tax as the Nationals leader rattled off a list of benefits the budget would bring to regional and rural Australia.
