WHAT WE LEARNED

* Most of the government's Dorothy Dix questions came from Liberal MPs possibly facing their final days in parliament and from seats Labor expects to pick up at a July 2 election.

* Abbottmania exists amongst news photographers as they snap the former PM rising from his seat to - wait for it - get three glasses of water.

* Government MPs held up scorecards with a big fat zero to highlight Labor's record on naval shipbuilding between 2007 and 2013.

* Labor sought bipartisan support for an "Australian candidate" to replace Ban Ki-moon as secretary-general of the United Nations, but preferred not to utter the name Kevin Rudd.

* The government is moving to rid our rivers of "disgusting bottom-dwelling mud-sucking creatures", aka as European carp, Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce proclaimed.

WHAT THE GOVERNMENT WANTED TO SPIN

Its economic plan to ensure that Australia continues to make a successful transition from an economy fired up by an unprecedented mining construction boom to one more diverse and that takes advantage of the great opportunities of the 21st century economy - to use Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's words.

THE POINT LABOR WANTED TO MAKE

Why is the government cutting $5000 from a family earning $60,000, but giving a $2600 tax cut to an individual earning $300,000 a year?
