WHAT WE LEARNED

* The Defence Department has called in federal police to investigate a leak of an early draft of its white paper. Several sections of the draft were obtained by The Australian newspaper, allowing former prime minister Tony Abbott a free hit against his predecessor to say he was "flabbergasted" by the Turnbull government's apparent decision to delay replacement of Australia's submarine fleet.

* The government is "very interested" in working with the pokies industry and the states on ways to reduce problem gambling, but it won't support Andrew Wilkie's private bill for mandatory pre-commitment and a $1 bet limit.

* Treasurer Scott Morrison insisted the government is being sober and rational about its tax policy development. Unlike Labor, of course.

The latest growth figures showing the economy grew by 3 per cent in 2015. "We are growing faster than every other economy in the G7 and growing well above the OECD average," the prime minister said.
