Question time in federal parliament
WHAT WE LEARNED:
* The government will not be adopting Labor's proposal to reduce the capital gains tax discount for individuals from 50 per cent to 25 per cent for new assets acquired from July 1, 2017.
* Labor's carbon and mining taxes may be dead, buried and cremated, but they're still a weapon for the government to use against the opposition.
* The government is looking at the "entire" superannuation system as part of its tax review.
* The Geraldton Fisherman's cooperative has one of the most efficient live lobster supply chains in the world, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop told MPs as she spruiked the free-trade deal with China.
WHAT THE GOVERNMENT WANTED TO SPIN:
Its plan for Australians to make the most of new growth opportunities in the global economy. Take Qantas for instance, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said.
WHAT LABOR WANTED TO TALK ABOUT:
The prime minister's misleading "waffle" on the capital gains tax.
YOU SAID WHAT:
"We are lucky enough to have an infallible prime minister in this country; we are very lucky to know that we are led by the smartest man in Australia, self-declared, that even when he gets it wrong, he is still right," Opposition Leader Bill Shorten.
TOP TWEET:
"Tony Abbott sits about 50 feet from Malcolm Turnbull - it's an impressive effort for him to throw his voice that far in #qt," Labor MP Tim Watts.
