An LNP government campaign trying to sell Queenslanders on the idea of assets sales has ended up costing the state millions.

Using right to information laws, a 9NEWS investigation has found Strong Choices was a bonanza for consultants.

Multinational ad agency MediaCom got $11,926,988, political strategists Crosby Textor $1,854,292,"digital grassroots" agency Bluegrass Consulting $1,617,196 and PR company Burson-Marsteller received $919,497 for "monitoring feedback to the Strong Choices website".

Bluegrass and Burson-Martseller got another $527,293.76 in expenses with Professional Public Relations Queensland and the Queensland Corporation Communications Network sharing another $955,171 towards a total cost of $19,670,091.16.

"At a time when Campbell Newman was telling Queenslanders they had to tighten their belts, he and his government was spending $20 million of taxpayers' money on a program of propaganda," Treasurer Curtis Pitt said.

But that's not all – the current government suspects Strong Choices cost even more and the last government has somehow managed to hide it.

"Everyday we are finding out something new," Mr Pitt said.

The LNP refused to be interviewed.

It says it can't provide the total cost because it no longer has the resources of government.
