Wife killer John Chardon uses George Pell case in bid to have manslaughter conviction quashed

A Queensland wife killer has attempted to use the High Court's decision over Cardinal George Pell in a bid to have his conviction for manslaughter quashed.

John William Chardon, 72, was found guilty of manslaughter in September after his wife Novy Chardon, 34, disappeared from their Gold Coast mansion in 2013 amid a divorce dispute.

Lawyer Tony Glynn QC told the Brisbane Court of Appeal on Thursday that the verdict against Chardon was wrong.

He said the evidence of various witnesses should have created doubt in the jurors' minds, comparing it to similar issues with witness evidence in Cardinal Pell's trial for child sexual abuse.
