Woman and toddler killed and others injured in three vehicle crash near Townsville

A two-year-old boy has died in hospital, the second fatality of a three vehicle crash near Townsville that killed a 47-year-old Ayr woman and injured several others last week.

The woman was declared dead at the scene, with another woman in her 30s, and two toddlers transported to hospital in critical conditions.

The little boy battled significant abdominal and injuries in hospital, before passing away in hospital yesterday morning.

The little girl survived pelvic, shoulder, head and abdominal injuries while the 30-year-old woman was treated for significant arm, leg, chest and pelvic injuries.

Queensland Police alleged that around 5pm on Sunday, October 31, a Toyota Landcruiser travelling southbound on the Bruce Highway, in Julago collided with the woman's Mazda 3, after hitting a Toyota Corolla, both driving in the opposite direction.

The driver and passenger of the Toyota Corolla were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The 22 year-old-Ayr man who was driving the Landcruiser has been issued with a notice to face court on one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death while adversely affected.

Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed he was not injured in the accident, but his passenger, a man, from Keslso in his 30s was deemed critical, with chest, abdominal, pelvis and neck injuries.

The 22-year-old is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on December 7.

Forensic Crash Unit investigations are ongoing and anyone with information which may assist is urged to come forward.
