Queensland police confirm mystery drug which caused 21 overdoses ‘not Flakka’

Police have confirmed the mystery drug causing havoc around the Gold Coast is not Flakka, as has been widely speculated.

A total of 21 people have overdosed on the mysterious substance over the weekend, experiencing similar symptoms of aggression and hallucinations.

Instead, tests showed hospitalised patients ingested a cocktail of amphetamine-type substances, including MDMA and LSD.

The tests found no trace of α-Pyrrolidinopentiophenone, known as ‘Flakka’.

The news comes a day after Queensland's police and Crime and Corruption Commision announced it was joining forces to crack down on drugs before schoolies celebrations in November.

Three people have been charged with drug-related offences, including two for drug supply and one for possession.
