NASA image shows Queensland river swollen to 60km-wide amid flooding disaster
A major flood disaster is under way in Queensland.
This NASA image provided by Weatherzone shows rivers like the Diamantina, the Georgina, and Cooper Creek all in full flood.
Cooper Creek is usually dry, but in this image is approximately 60km wide with floodwaters at the broadest point, according to Weatherzone.
The water will flow in a south-westerly direction towards the currently dry Kati Thanda- Lake Eyre Basin in South Australia.
The waters will take several weeks to arrive.
This image shows the landscape two weeks before last week's rain event, when most of the country pictured had barely received a drop of rain since the start of 2025.
The area of Queensland currently affected by flooding is almost as large as New South Wales.
Graziers have been forced to wait and watch for floodwaters to recede, knowing at least 100,000 animals and 3000kms of fencing have been lost.

The town of Eromanga, famous for being the furthest Australian town from the ocean, received 300mm of rain in just three days.
More than 100 homes across western Queensland have now been inundated and dozens of locals airlifted to safety.
Attempts to build a levee wall to protect the town of Thargomindah were somewhat in vain, with water breaching in two places on Sunday night.
It is, however, expected to have mitigated the worst of the flooding.
