Queensland opposition leader wants solar future for Sunshine State

It was hard to sell solar on a soggy day, but Queensland Labor wants the Sunshine State to be the solar state.

Under Labor’s plan, by 2030 50 percent of Queensland's power would come from renewable energy.

They have vowed to build a 40 megawatt solar farm and almost triple the number of houses with panels.

The trouble is, paying for solar already adds $52.79 to every power bill.

It doubles this year to $112.30 and more than doubles again the year after that.

But Labor says this time it'll be different, letting the competition authority set the new solar price.

State treasurer Tim Nicholls wasn’t impressed.

“They come up with a flimsy one page plan that has more holes in it than a Sao biscuit,” he chided.

 The comment drew a similar response from Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk, who said Mr Nicholls seemed to believe solar power was only for “the latte set”.

Big biccies and latte, it’s food for thought.
