Man in critical condition after alleged assault, attempted maiming in Queensland

A Queensland man is in a critical condition after being seriously assaulted in a Cassowary Coast home last night.

Police allege the 66-year-old man was attacked by a 44-year-old man at a Euramo Road address in Euramo, near Tully in Far North Queensland.

It's believed the two men were known to each other.

Police allege the 44-year-old attempted to disfigure the 66-year-old with a household implement, inflicting critical injuries during the attack.

Police were called to the address just after 9pm, with the older man later airlifted to Townsville Hospital.

He was severely injured, with wounds on his head and torso.

The younger man was arrested at the scene and taken to the Innisfail watchhouse.

He has been charged with one count of acts intended to maim, disfigure or disable and one count of wounding.

He will appear in the Innisfail Magistrates Court today.
