‘It’s just not real’: Queensland dad mourns loss of two sons and ex-partner after car crash

A Queensland father is grieving the death of his two young sons and ex-partner after a horrific triple fatal crash on the Warrego Highway last night.

The accident has sparked a fierce reaction from locals who desperately want the speed limit in the area lowered.

“It appears the vehicle has performed a manoeuvre in front of the truck and collided with the truck and burst into flames at the scene - and nothing could be done to save the three occupants,” Jim McDonald from Queensland Police said.

Chrissie Lister and her two boys, 13-year-old Zach and nine-year-old Noel, were on a school holiday camping adventure.

But just an hour in, at 6.30pm last night, they were killed after the crash at the Forrest-Hill Fernvale Road intersection.

The 55-year-old behind the wheel of the semi-trailer has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

As the forensic crash unit returned to the scene to learn more today, Darling Downs father Peter Lester told 9News he was struggling to make sense of the situation.

“What do I do now? I've lost my own two kids,” he said.

“It still hasn't hit me, I still look outside and have a look to see if they are coming down the driveway - it’s just not real.”

While speed isn’t believed to be a factor in this incident, locals are furious that the speed limit had been raised at the intersection to 100 km/h.

“I've got all these plans I want to do with them, now I can't,” Mr Lester said.

“You've got to be alert, if you are not this is what happens.”
