Queensland pair accused of attempted carjacking of mother with young son

A Queensland couple who allegedly led police on a wild pursuit through Brisbane before trying to carjack a woman with her child in the back seat have been refused bail.

A police helicopter caught the entire dramatic chase on camera, after police spotted the allegedly stolen car driving dangerously on the Mt Lindesay Highway about 9pm last night.

Police allege the pair mounted roundabouts and weaved in and out of traffic, all as the police helicopter hovered above.

Pursuing officers eventually prepared road spikes in a bid to stop the pair, although the effort ended up sending the out of control car smashing into another two cars before coming to a rest.

Police alleged the stolen rental car was pulled into a Beenleigh petrol station where the pair allegedly targeted another vehicle.

Inside the car was a 23-year-old woman and her one-year-old baby boy. The thieves allegedly threatened her with a screwdriver and demanded her keys.

She refused – holding the pair off until police arrived.

Amazingly, neither mother or child were hurt during the ordeal.

The pair faced court today charged with several offences.
