Major traffic delays for Brisbane holiday goers over long weekend

Major delays are expected for Brisbane residents enjoying long weekend getaways as eager holiday goers cause congestion on major highways both sides of the city.

Traffic delays of up to an hour and fifteen minutes are affecting the Bruce Highway north to the Sunshine Coast since 8am, from Sandgate to the Glasshouse Mountains.

To the south heading to the Gold Coast, traffic has been getting steadily worse throughout the day, with delays of 50 minutes between Underwood and Helensvale.

After this stretch traffic eases to regular conditions.

Queensland Traffic reports that areas of the Pacific Motorway, around Eight Mile Plains, Rochedale, Springwood and Daisy Hill are also experiencing congestion, southbound towards the Gold Coast.
