Young man stabbed to death in Brisbane ambush

A young man has been killed in a "disturbing and brazen" ambush after being dragged out of his car and stabbed in Brisbane.

The 23-year-old drove a white Mercedes into the car park of a Mansfield gym this afternoon when he was pursued by a black Audi and rammed by a Nissan Patrol, police said.

Five men piled out of the cars and smashed the driver's side window with a crow bar, chasing their victim as he tried to flee from the passenger door.

"These males were extremely motivated to hunt this individual down," Queensland Police Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said today.

The 23-year-old was stabbed multiple times in the torso by one of the men before four got back in the Nissan Patrol and left.

A fifth fled on foot, police said.

"It is a disturbing act, it's a brazen act and it's a cowardly act," Massingham said.

A man was taken into custody a short distance away after being tracked by a police dog.

He is assisting police with their investigation.

The entire "brazen" attack was captured by security cameras.

"The CCTV is confronting and horrific," Massingham said.

First aid was given to the 23-year-old but he died at the scene.

He is yet to be identified.

Massingham said police were investigating possible bikie links to the attack.

"The motive is unknown," he said.

"We need to identify the victim to give us a starting point," he said.

Police have found two backpacks in bins nearby, which are yet to be examined.

The Nissan Patrol involved has not yet been located.

Police have urged residents not to approach the car if they see it, and instead contact police.
