How much more Queenslanders will pay to own a car from July 1
If the cost of living pressures weren't already driving Queenslanders to the brink the state government has delivered another blow and it's hitting motorists.
From July 1 the cost of registering a car will rise and so will what fines misbehaving drivers are slapped with due to inflation which has slowed to 6.8 per cent in the year to February 2023.

The total cost of registering a four-cylinder vehicle will rise from $773 to $793 - an increase of almost $20.
For six-cylinder cars, it is up by $26.50.
And for eight-cylinder cars, it is rising a whopping $34.05 a year.

As for fines, even these already hefty penalties are going up.
If you're caught driving less than 11km over the limit you'll now be slugged $309 dollars which is up $22.
The penalty for speeding up to 20km over limit is rising by $33.
If you're caught on your phone, the current fine is $1078 but it will rise to $1161 - an increase of $83.
