He was at a party at a Taringa unit complex on Friday night when he slipped and fell from a third-floor balcony.

He died at the scene.

The UQ Beach Volleyball Club has posted a touching tribute to Mr Weir on its Facebook page, saying he was "the life of the club".

"Nigel was UQBVC's club captain, he always wanted to be involved and was constantly offering to assist in anyway he could," the post read.

"We loved him dearly."

Mr Weir’s parents have used social media to thank his friends for their support.

UQ Sport is offering free counseling sessions to those affected by Mr Weir's death.
