Queensland ambulance thief under police guard

A patient who stole an ambulance on the way to a Queensland hospital then crashed it into a bus stop is receiving treatment under police guard.

Paramedics were treating the woman for a head injury on Friday afternoon when she assaulted them and stole their vehicle on the Sunshine Coast.

Police attempted to stop the woman but she evaded them and continued driving dangerously through several suburban streets.

Her erratic driving eventually saw her crash the ambulance into a bus stop on Pennant Court, Peregian Springs.

No one was seriously injured as a result of the incident.

The woman remains in custody under police guard.
