Queen’s Baton winds its way through Brisbane as Games countdown continues

The Queen’s Baton has made one of its final stops before the Commonwealth Games, winding its way through Brisbane.

After a marathon 95-day journey, some of Queensland’s champions carried the Queen’s message today.

Giann Rooney told 9NEWS carrying the baton made her feel a “huge part of the community”.

“I just love the fact we're so excited about the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast!” she said.

Other swimming greats including Kieran Perkins, Susie O’Neill and Alicia Couts were also given the honours of carrying the baton.

A massive security detail of up to 50 police and officials followed every baton bearer to ensure it makes each destination safely.

The baton will visit Clevelend tomorrow before touring Griffith University’s Nathan campus, Kangaroo Point, Teneriffe and New Farm.

The biggest crowds are expected to be in the city and along Southbank, where the baton will travel tomorrow evening.
