Queensland lifesavers have celebrated the end of a summer without a single drowning on the state's beaches.

Surf Life Saving Queensland says 8.6 million people hit the sunshine state's beaches over the summer, a 13 per cent increase on last year's figures.

Lifesavers performed 1400 rescues and of that number, roughly 75 per cent occurred outside flagged areas, including 84 rescues more than one kilometre from the nearest patrolled area.
