X-ray finds gun in Qld man's luggage

An unlicensed gun owner has been busted after trying to get his pistol onto a plane in his checked luggage.

Police say the handgun was detected during an X-ray search of checked luggage at Townsville Airport on Tuesday morning.

A further detailed search allegedly revealed ammunition and a magazine.

The 40-year-old man has been charged with three firearm offences and is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
