A 50-year-old woman has died while in police custody on the Gold Coast.

The woman is believed to have suffered from a medical condition while at the Southport Watchhouse early on Thursday, with resuscitation attempts by police proving unsuccessful.

An investigation into the death will be carried out by the Queensland Police Service Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the State Coroner.

It is the third Queensland death in less than one month being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command.

Liam Scorsese, 31, was shot and killed by police after he allegedly threatened them with a knife when they responded to a disturbance in the Brisbane bayside suburb of Wakerley on Sunday.

Another man, 39-year-old Trevor King, died in the Townsville Hospital on February 10 after being taken into police custody.

A February 14 incident that saw a 16-year-old boy shot by police near Ipswich is also under investigation.

The boy was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was later charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm after he allegedly attempted to strike a man with a knife.
