A pregnant woman has died after being bludgeoned in an alleged domestic incident on the Gold Coast.

The 35-year-old woman, who is understood to be about 10 weeks pregnant, was found in her home in Randwick Court, Varsity Lakes on Monday afternoon.

Paramedics performed CPR on the woman, who had serious head injuries, before taking her to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Police confirmed she died on Monday night.

A man in his 30s - understood to be her partner - has been arrested.

Detective Inspector Marc Hogan would not comment what weapon was used, but there are reports she was attacked with an axe or tomahawk.

"There is an indication there is a history of domestic related matters," he said.
