Woman critical after bashing

A woman from an Aboriginal community near Cairns is fighting for her life after being bashed in the head.

The 20-year-old woman was airlifted on Sunday to Townsville Base Hospital after police were called to the Aboriginal community of Yarrabah.

She is suffering from severe head injuries and remains in a critical condition.

A 37-year-old man has been charged with grievous bodily harm and will face the Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday.

Police said the pair were known to each other.
