Welfare management for Qld DV offenders
AAP
Domestic violence perpetrators in Cape York communities face having their welfare payments quarantined when a protection order is made by the courts.
Queensland has amended laws to help address incidents of domestic violence in the welfare reform communities of Aurukun, Cohen, Hope Vale, Mossman Gorge and Doomadgee.
The changes require a court to notify the Family Responsibility Commission if a protection order is made, which would allow the independent statutory body to order "compulsory income management" over the offender's welfare payments.
