Tests of Queensland women to determine suspected Zika cases

Health authorities are awaiting tests to confirm if two Queensland women who returned from a holiday in Bali contracted the Zika virus.

The Mackay Hospital and Health Service said on Sunday the two women had since recovered from illness but testing would continue to determine if they had caught the mosquito-borne virus.

Both women, who live in Bowen and Cannonvale, will provide further samples for testing this week.

The process is complicated by the fact the virus, if present, would no longer be active in their bodies.

The suspected cases are not linked to a Mackay man diagnosed with the virus on Thursday after returning from Mexico.
