More storms predicted for southeast Qld

Southeast Queenlanders are being warned to brace for more wild weather as the victims of a fierce weekend storm tally the repair bill.

Wind gusts of more than 100km/h brought down trees and damaged roofs in the hardest hit areas of Ipswich, and Brisbane's western and southern suburbs on Sunday afternoon.

As the clean-up continues, the Bureau of Meteorology has warned there may be more thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday.

However, a spokesman said it was unlikely the weather would be as bad as Sunday's storm.

Insurers have moved in to determine the cost of the wild weather, which left many cars hail damaged.

Energex said about 140 power lines were brought down during the storm, with around 15,000 homes losing power.

Some 44,000 lightning strikes were recorded, including 3200 direct cloud to ground strikes.
