Two aged care residents die after gastro outbreak

Two people have died following a gastroenteritis outbreak at an aged care home in Brisbane, as it’s revealed another aged care home has been struck down.

Queensland Health confirmed to 9NEWS two residents had died following the outbreak at the Regis aged care home at Yeronga, but the company said yesterday and reiterated today that there had been no deaths linked to the virus at the facility.

“There have been no deaths confirmed as being linked to the gastroenteritis,” it said in a statement.

9NEWS can also reveal there has been another outbreak at a Regis facility at Wynnum, with 15 patients affected by gastroenteritis, otherwise known as norovirus, in June.

Regis and Queensland Health confirmed those affected by the virus at Wynnum survived.

Families and friends of residents, too afraid of repercussions to speak out, have contacted 9NEWS saying they want an investigation.

"This is really not good enough for an aged care facility (or any for that matter) and regardless of it being privately owned I am astounded the Health Department does not get involved," one family member said.

The Regis aged care home at Yeronga remains under lockdown due to the virus.
