Townsville youth blitz yields 538 arrests

A month-long police blitz on unruly youth in Townsville resulted in 538 arrests.
Police laid 983 charges, mostly relating to drug, property and traffic offences, during the operation aimed at cracking down on anti-social behaviour among the city's youth.
The second phase of Operation Oscar Merchant begins on Wednesday, with 10 additional officers to help local police tackle youth crime.
