A Townsville courthouse has been declared safe hours after it was evacuated due to a bomb threat.

The Walker Street complex was emptied and police were called after a man phoned in an "unspecified threat" just after 1pm on Wednesday.

Officers scoured the site but found nothing. The courthouse was declared safe and reopened by 3.30pm.
