Toddler bitten by snake in outback Qld

A four-year-old Queensland girl is being airlifted to hospital after she was bitten on the foot by a snake, believed to be a python.

The girl was bitten around 8.30am (AEST) on Wednesday at Julia Creek more than 250km east of Mt Isa in the state's northwest.

She is being flown to the Mt Isa Hospital in a stable condition as a precaution. The girl does not have any concerning symptoms, a Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman says.

Pythons are not venomous but can cause painful bite wounds.

On Sunday a 62-year-old grandfather died after he was bitten by a taipan or brown snake while walking through grass at his Bluewater property north of Townsville.

Hours later a 46-year-old Cairns woman had a lucky escape after an unknown type of snake struck her on the leg when she was getting into her car.

Queensland Ambulance staff have already responded to more than 127 snake-related incidents since July 1, a tally expected to near 700 by the end of the year.
