Man rushed to hospital after sting ray attack north of the Sunshine Coast

A man has been rushed to hospital after being stung by a stingray at a coastal town north of Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

Emergency services were called to the Esplanade at Tin Can Bay about 11.20am today.

Paramedics assessed a man aged in his 30s who had been stung on the foot.

He was taken to Gympie Hospital in a stable condition.

The Queensland government warns its residents to only swim at patrolled beaches, look out for and obey safety signs and not to touch any marine stingers even if they have washed up on shore.

Anyone stung is urged to dial Triple Zero and ask for an ambulance.

"While waiting for the ambulance, pour vinegar onto the sting and administer oxygen or CPR if required," the Queensland government says on its website.
