CCTV captures moment thieves fail to crack ATM in Ipswich ram-raid

A man and a woman failed to crack open an ATM but made off with shop tills after ram-raiding a supermarket in the Ipswich suburb of Bundamba this morning.

Security video captured the moment the pair reversed a silver Hyundai SUV, which is believed to be stolen, into the glass façade of the Naomi Street IGA at about 3.10am, police said.

The pair then exited the vehicle and tried to break open an ATM inside the shop using a sledgehammer, hitting the ATM fives times. 

When the ATM failed to crack, they turned their attention to a nearby office and stole several shop tills containing cash before driving away.

Neighbours heard the commotion but didn't realise what had happened until the later in the morning.

"We thought we heard some alarms going off last night," resident John Kitching told 9NEWS. 

This incident is the second time in a month the IGA has been broken into and the owners were in the process of increasing security.

Police investigations are ongoing and officers have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
