Teenager in Qld court over fatal attack

A teenager accused of bashing a stranger on the Gold Coast who later died in hospital is due to front court.

The 40-year-old was left fighting for his life after the attack outside the Coolangatta Hotel nearly two weeks ago.

The man died in hospital on Monday afternoon.

The 18-year-old New Zealand national is now expected to have his charge upgraded to unlawful striking causing death when he appears in the Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Police will allege the teen was involved in a fight with a group of people before moving away and striking the older man, causing him to fall on the road.
