A Queensland teenager jailed for joyriding in an NRL player’s stolen Audi allegedly escaped from prison yesterday in her boyfriend’s car.

Hayley Gillespie, 19, and her fellow inmate Mary Brimble, also 19, were recaptured early this morning after escaping Numinbah Correctional Centre in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

Gillespie was serving an 18-month sentence for 57 offences, including evading police while driving in Brisbane Broncos player Darius Boyd’s stolen Audi.

Her boyfriend allegedly drove into the low-security prison and left with the two women about 4.15pm yesterday.

Police found Gillespie and Brimble at a Loganholme address about 3.30am, and charged the pair with escaping lawful custody.

The women faced court this morning and both cases were adjourned until later this month.

Brimble is serving a 22-month sentence for robbery with violence and bodily harm.

Her lawyer indicated she would plead guilty to the escape charge.
