A Gold Coast teenager has been remanded in custody after he was charged with murder over a hit and run that killed a good Samaritan attempting to help the victims of a violent home invasion on Boxing Day.

Darren Pullar, 50, of Yatala, died in December after being run over on Rio Vista Boulevard, Broadbeach Waters, by a car leaving the scene of a home invasion around 1.25am.

It's believed Mr Pullar was in a nearby unit at the time of the attack and was going to the aid of his neighbours when he was struck by the car.

Police have charged 17-year-old Alexander Kirke, of Varsity Lakes, with murder, attempted burglary and assault occasioning bodily harm over the incident.

He briefly faced Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he didn't apply for bail, and was remanded in custody to reappear on January 19.

Detective Acting Inspector Greg Aubort said at the time there was nothing to link Mr Pullar to the two men involved in the incident.

"There's no evidence to suggest he was involved in the lead-up to this incident; it may be a case of the wrong place, wrong time," he said.
