Taxi driver assaulted and cab stolen in Surfers Paradise overnight

A taxi driver has been assaulted and his cab stolen in Surfers Paradise overnight.

The 34-year-old man was dropping off three passengers on Hamilton Avenue about 1.40am when a male passenger hit him in the face, Queensland Police said.

The man allegedly became aggressive about paying the fare and allegedly continued to assault the driver after the initial strike.

Police said the driver walked away from the car when two other men ran towards him.

The taxi station wagon was then stolen and found by police a short time later 200m away, on the same street.

The taxi driver was treated by paramedics at the scene.
