Suspicious device found west of Brisbane

A suspicious device found in a home west of Brisbane is being investigated by the police bomb squad.

An emergency situation was declared under the Public Safety and Preservation Act at 2pm in the Ipswich suburb of Raceview, a police spokeswoman said.

Police have cordoned off several streets near Cemetery Road and are urging motorists to avoid the area.

It is not known who alerted police to the device.
