Neighbours star assault trial for stripper

It was supposed to be a fun night out but after Neighbours star Scott McGregor stepped into a Gold Coast strip club, it ended with blood on his face.

Within minutes McGregor, who plays a police detective in the Network Ten series, had a glass hurled at his head by Hollywood showgirls exotic dancer Danielle "Ivy" Lee.

Lee is on trial for assault occasioning bodily harm after pleading not guilty in Southport Magistrates Court.

Police allege that after a verbal spat with McGregor, Lee picked up the glass "in a fit of rage" and threw it at the actor, hitting him in the face and leaving a 1cm cut.

Lee's legal team accepts there was an assault but argue it was justified given McGregor's behaviour.

McGregor was intoxicated and verbally abusive, calling Lee a "dirty slut", defence barrister David Funch told the trial on Tuesday.

"Do you deny saying: 'Look at you, you piece of s***, I would never take you, you're a slut. I would never think twice about taking someone as dirty as you'," McGregor was asked.

McGregor emphatically denied the claim. He insisted Lee was the aggressor in the exchange.

The soapie star says he simply said "thanks, but no thanks" when Lee asked him if he wanted a private dance. Then she threw the glass.

"I was hit with a glass to the face. It hit me very hard and bounced off," McGregor said.

"I was bleeding profusely. I had a pool of blood in my hands."

He repeatedly claimed not to recall how many drinks he'd had, how long he had been drinking or even what clubs the group visited on the night but insisted he was not drunk.

Lee's clearly frustrated legal team asked if McGregor had a mental disability.

"Potentially," the soap star said.

"I haven't looked into it. Maybe, who knows?"

The court heard the actor has a history of public drunkenness and aggression towards women, and police had previously been called to the Melbourne home of his ex-girlfriend.

The Ramsay Street star has recently announced he will be leaving the Australian series. He is expecting a second child with partner Bianka Voigt.

The couple married in January and have a daughter, Evie.

The trial has been adjourned until October 8. Lee is expected to testify when it resumes.
